Liam’s first movie …

So just before supper tonight, I told my DH that the neighbours were bringing their kids to go see Wall-E at the theatres.

He said, “why don’t I go & pick tickets up now for the movie at 7:30 tonight?” He came back with 5 tickets …’ I thought just you & Em & Malcolm? You wanna bring a 2 1/2 year old to the theatres?’ “sure, why not”.

Liam did REALLY WELL. Better than the some of the older kids I heard in the theatre. Liam was quiet as a mouse, except for twice of a small voice of “whad’z happppening to himmmm?”. But really, he did well. Liam sat on my lap & cuddled for the parts that needed cuddling. Fun Movie. I won’t say anything of it, but really, it’s cute, you should go. My whole family loved it.

Twinkling Owl Birthday

I must admit, I don’t get the whole owl craze, I mean really it’s everywhere, and everywhere and everywhere I’ve been looking lately. But they are cute and when I saw this owl stamp I thought I could do some different things with it.

Here’s my new stamp I picked up at Heather’s Stamping Haven today … as a treat for getting through the first two days of summer break with all 3 kids (well all 3 kids & all their friends LOL). That & and the ingredients for “Friday Margaritas”, as per request of DH.

I’ve had Twinkling H20′s for years, but I don’t pull them out very often, because I’m not all that comfortable with the colouring thang. These are the Twinkling H20′s used on the Owl: Amber Bronze, Almond Beige, Pink cloud, Blushing Caramel, Cinnamon stick, & Pale Porcelain (brushed on with the aqua painter).

I also used Pearl Ex Powders (mixed with Dazzling Diamonds for medium) on the “moon ring” and brushed over top of the Black CStock (embossed with Cuttlebug Embossing templates). I was hoping that the gold would only cling to the raised embossing, but it sorta went all over the card. Live & learn.

And here’s the owl birthday card for a 10 year old. 10 is a funny age, still into little girl, but wanting to be older too.

Cee Cee’s Challenge #9

Well, it’s my first Challenge of Cee Cee’s, not nineth, but there ya be!

Cee Cee has a fun Colour Challenge inspired by this photo from Anna Maria’s Store. I was just perusing some of my favourite blog sites & when I saw the colours that CC had for the challenge it was too close to some PP that I had left over from a birthday card.

The card will be for a school buddy of Emma’s who is having a party next week. I liked the idea of the swirls in the above patterns, so I just cut around a bit. It looks more “oceany” than anything, but it was fun to make, thanks, CC!

Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration #13

Yeah! Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration. Just love them. This week’s inspiration comes from Tracy Porter and the beautiful patterns in her Rosewater Bedding. Nice:

The colours that were pulled from this image to use in a creation were:

I had a PILE of Purely Pomegranate Card Stock. I think I had changed my mind about some Christmas cards, but just as well, I love having this colour on hand. I have nearly no wild wasabi nor river rock. MAN! So I thought instead I would just use the trusty stamp pads to make some home made pp. I used the star from “Make a Wish” in Wild Wasabi & River Rick and used the small 3/4″ circle punch.

Then I used my new stamp that I picked up here in Ottawa from Heather’s Stamping Haven. It’s from hmmm the only thing it says on the stamp is “Outlines Rubber Stamp Co, Ink” Actually I remember seeing this stamp on a card that Kathy had made on a previous Kristina Colour Inspiration and thinking how wonderful it was … lots of possibilities. The Rhinestone Singles Clear Stickers were from icons ‘me & my big ideas‘ Also used Detailed White Embossing Powder and (retired) S.U. Bold Brights PINK Embossing powder. Regal Rose CS, Purely Pomegranate CS, Whisper White CS, dimensionals, corner rounder and some serious time with some scissors. I’m more of a punch girl.

It’s going to be a birthday card for my MUM! Her birthday is in July, but I don’t think she’ll look at this blog. She “doesn’t get” the whole paper crafts thang. Anyways, here’s the card:

On a personal note, today was the kid’s last day of Grade 1 and Grade 3. Mon Dieu, I need your help! They are absolutely bananas. This was them in the car this morning:

Monday Chores …

As a S.A.H.M. who seems to be at home less & less & more & more in the mini van zipping here & there or biking to the park or just out with the kids, you learn things.

I have learned in order not to get discouraged about the never ending house work: stick to a schedule. Sounds boring, I realize. It doesn’t always work, but for the most part, if I get my “daily BIG chore” done I feel as though I have accomplished at least something.

Mondays: floors. I swear, they are dirtier in the summer, even though we are outside way more, than in the winter time. The bucket of water is just black after I’m done … sandy toes, ice cream/water melon drippings and that doesn’t even account for the “on the spot clean ups” due to link stuck to unknown spills, done through out the week. Why are we thinking about getting a dog again? It’ll either add to the mess or maybe be become the “living central vac” for cheereos and other food bits that is so desparately needed to be cleaned up around here.

The kids favourite day is Wednesday … “wash the linens on 4 beds day”. Why? They don’t have to make their beds. I take care of it. Last week Malcolm forgot it was Wednesday, made his bed & then said, “Can I not make my bed tomorrow, because I forgot” LOL

Maaya turns 1

Here was the $SPP (dollar Store Patterned Paper LOL) that I picked up. It was such I bargoon, I wonder, it’s probably toxic to children & will crumble well within my life time, but I thought it was pretty and we don’t have a scrapbook store with lots of paper in the West end of Ottawa.

I can’t believe Maaya’s 1. Doesn’t the first year of a baby’s life go so quickly? Well, okay maybe not on those rough few nights of colic or sickness whatever when you think you’ll never get through it, but looking back, it goes quickly. I miss the baby months … uh oh somewhere my DH is shivering!

Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration #12

This week Kristina Werner picked an image from Design Sponge. Nice Stuff. Really Nice Stuff.

The S.U. colours Kristina chose were Sahara Sand, So Saffron, Wild Wasabi, & Whisper White.

What stood out to me in the Inspiration was the “grid”, I’m not sure what to call it, “burlap?” style pretty white material, but I liked the fun circle designs & the metal spoons in the b/ground. So I took Liam & a buddy (sitting for a friend) to Timmy’s & then to the park to ponder for a bit.

And here’s what I ended up with:

Used: Cuttlebug Letters (cut using Sizzix Machine), So Saffron CS, Wild Wasabi CS, Karen Avery PP, Pencil Check PP from Natures Garden Colorbök, & Whisper White CS. Also used those round metal rimmed paper labels from Staples or office supply stores, oh & dimensionals.

Corinne’s Pull Out Scrapbook

I saw Corinne’s tutorial on SplitCoastStampers. It looked like fun, so here’s my go at it.

I followed her very clear & wonderful tutorial pretty much to the ‘T’; however 1) I messed up & have the PP on the outside. BTW it’s called ‘super sticky tape’ for a reason. So I just went with it.

2) I didn’t have Chipboard Coasters, so I cut up doubled up Cereal Box (4 pieces, 2 glued together, with corners rounded) It’s hidden, I figured it’s hidden, so it’s just for structural integrity.

This is what I mean, by messing up with the PP on the outside … I actually like it (sour grapes, no? LOL) like this. Sometimes the things I like most are MISTAKES.

& then when you untie the insides flaps it does this:

I think what I’ll do is save it for a “fast gift” sometime & put the appropriate pictures in at that time.

Merci, Monsieur!

The card was made with glossy White C/Stock, using the shaving cream technique (Glorious Green ink & Brocade Blue) The holes in the metal tags were covered up with Rhinestones attached by Glue Dots. I also used the cuttlebug letters with my sizzix & some dimensionals.

Here’s a close-up of the shaving cream “marbeling” (actually more like ‘blobbing’ as I was rushing to Liam wouldn’t put his hands in to ‘help’)

The Tooth Fairy.

I made this little ‘Tooth Fairy’ pillow years ago for Emma. It was in demand last night when Malcolm lost his 7th baby tooth.

It was easy enough to make out of Polar fleece material. Just a little “tooth shaped pillow” sewn onto a square pillow. (Open at top) Because of the super puffiness, the tooth stays in for the fairy to exchange for a toonie.

Here’s Malcolm, my little green eyed monster, the morning after he lost his tooth & was compensated … oh the incisor was so tiny. Their adult teeth look so big when they come in. It really changes the look of the child, I find.
